Boating in Beechworth

Beechworth's main water attraction is Lake Sambell which offers a number of opportunities for water based activities. With strict speed limits for motorised craft in place it is best suited to slower craft and activities. In previous years water ski-ing was on the Lake was popular but this is no longer permitted and motorised fishing boats must limit their speed. Look for the speed limits and zones. The occassional small sail boat also takes to the water.



Boat Fishing in Beechworth

Boat Fishing in Beechworth is popular on Lake Sambell and enables anglers to access some or the more distant locations that are not easily reached on foot. Most of the species caught on Lake Sambell were near the fallen trees off of the embankment. They are also caught in the centre of the lake and around the edges of the reeds. Gold Perch (yellowbelly), trout and Redfin are all caught regularly.

This is a paddle that lets you discover some of the interesting features around the perimeter of the lake including the protected tailings that remain from when Lake Sambell was one of the original mines. There are also walkways and even a small jetty.
